The good news came on Thursday morning, even before the start of the first round of the Amundi Evian Championship: Kim Métraux, 26, is now in the Olympic draw for Tokyo.

But the eldest of the Métraux sisters has not simply "inherited" Morgane's place, who has given up on going to the Olympics to concentrate fully on the Symetra Tour and her big goal, which is called "an LPGA 2022 card". Kim Métraux will replace Slovenia's Ana Belac in Tokyo, who withdrew from the Olympics on Wednesday evening. The Lausanne native was informed by the head of the Swiss golf team, Marcel Meier. This happened just before she left for Evian, where she was going to give moral support to her sister Morgane, "outside the ropes", during her entry in the Amundi Evian Championship.

Joy and surprise

"I am very, very happy to be able to go to the Olympic Games in Tokyo," said a delighted Kim Métraux on Thursday afternoon in Evian. Her joy is all the greater because her participation was a total surprise at the last moment. "I didn't count on the possibility of being able to start at the Olympic Games," she said.

She spent Thursday morning on the phone: "My plans for the next few weeks were completely changed and I had to inform many people around me." Amongst others, her caddie from England, who will not be travelling to Ireland (to the LET tournament) next week, but will stop over in Switzerland before flying to Tokyo with Kim and her father, Olivier Métraux.

On the sidelines of the Evian Major, Kim Métraux received numerous congratulations for her selection, including from Swiss Golf's Director of Sport, Barbara Albisetti, and the General Secretary of the ASGI, Pascal Germanier.

However, the woman from Lausanne is not willing to formulate concrete expectations for the Olympic golf tournament: "These are my first Olympics. I'm looking forward to what's in store for me and I'm really looking forward to being part of the Olympic family in Tokyo." She is convinced that the experience will be unforgettable and will fly to Tokyo next Thursday from Zurich. The tropical climate in Japan does not frighten her: "I lived in Florida for a long time, the heat and high humidity are familiar to me!"
