Jonathan Jasper Sikora’s Unconventional Journey to Professional Golf
14. May 2025
A Lausanne Native with International Roots
“I’m 28 years old, born on January 20th, 1997, and raised in Lausanne. My roots are international—my father is from Poland, grew up in Canada, and played professional basketball,” says Jonathan Jasper Sikora. This multicultural background instilled in him a blend of athletic discipline and open-mindedness that continues to shape his path.
His passion for golf was sparked early on. “My love for golf came from my parents, who regularly played at Domaine du Brésil. My godfather gave me my first set of clubs—that was the beginning.” Joining Lausanne Golf Club under Jean-Charles Bemberg was a pivotal moment that turned a hobby into a serious pursuit.
No Traditional Route—But Headed for the Same Goal
The typical U.S. college path wasn’t an option for Sikora. “After high school, I spent six months training in Florida and contacted universities in the U.S., but none offered a full scholarship.” A full ride at a Canadian university didn’t work out either due to academic requirements. He stayed in Switzerland, completed military service, and eventually earned a nursing degree in 2023.
“I balanced nursing school with tournaments and training—it wasn’t always easy.” Still, he never let go of golf, playing at least one international event per year to stay sharp. Today, his flexible work arrangement allows him to chase his dreams. “I’m on a 0% contract and can choose when I work.”
Financially, he carries most of the burden himself. “I live with my parents, use my mom’s car, and work to fund over 90% of my season.” After tournaments, it’s usually straight back to work—no rest, but full independence.
Discipline, Teamwork, and Big Dreams
His results weren’t always promising at first: “I missed every cut in my first pro year. But a few good results in Switzerland kept my confidence up.” He now relies on a close-knit team of coaches, friends, and a mental coach, Jackson Ferguson. Through breathing techniques and meditation, he’s learning to manage pressure and doubt.
Switzerland has given him a solid foundation. “Living and working here made it possible to balance everything. And the variety of weather conditions taught me to adapt—that’s made me a stronger player.”
Sikora has clear goals: “Making my first cut on the Pro Golf Tour—that’s coming soon. And long term, I’m dreaming big: competing at the Olympics would be the ultimate achievement.”
To young athletes on alternative paths, he offers this advice: “Don’t let anyone rush you. There’s no right or wrong way to become a pro. What matters most is that you stay focused, outwork everyone, and believe in yourself.”
