A Historic Milestone for Swiss Golfer Albane Valenzuela

News

21. November 2024

For the first time in history, a Swiss golfer will play the grand finale of the LPGA Tour. Albane Valenzuela, the 26-year-old golfer from Geneva, has qualified for the prestigious LPGA Tour Championship in Naples, Florida, which kicks off this Thursday. This milestone marks a remarkable achievement for Swiss golf and solidifies Valenzuela’s place among the elite in women's golf.

The Road to Naples

The LPGA Tour Championship is the season’s pinnacle event, featuring the 60 best professional female golfers competing for a massive $11 million prize pool. Among them, Valenzuela stands out, not only as the first Swiss participant but also for her career-best performance this season. Across 22 events, she has earned an impressive $677,000 in prize money and currently ranks 45th overall, her highest standing to date.

This is not Valenzuela’s first moment in the spotlight. Just three months ago, she made her debut at the prestigious Solheim Cup, a competition featuring the best players from Europe and the United States. Now, she’s poised to face the world’s finest once again on the challenging Tiburon Golf Club course.

Breaking Records and Chasing Glory

The stakes are high in Naples. The winner will take home a record-breaking $4 million, a sum that reflects the growing prestige and competitiveness of the LPGA Tour. For Valenzuela, this is more than just a shot at glory—it’s a chance to further cement her place among golf’s elite and inspire a new generation of Swiss golfers.

Morgane Métraux: Continuing the Journey

Fellow Swiss golfer Morgane Métraux has ranking 96th and she narrowly missed qualifying for the Tour Championship. Nevertheless, the Lausanne native retains her LPGA Tour playing privileges for the 2025 season, ensuring Switzerland’s continued presence on the global stage.
