Kim Métraux de Heer came within a whisker of victory in Holland.

22. July 2024

Kim Métraux de Heer came within a whisker of victory in Holland. An unsuccessful third round deprived her of her first victory on the LET.

Eight birdies in the first round (65) and seven in the second round (67) had given her a five-shot lead over her pursuer. Her putting was top-notch and her tee shots cut the fairways in half. Everything seemed to be in place for the young woman from Lausanne to win her first European Tour title. Without explanation, without changing anything and despite a very good warm up session on Sunday morning, the start of her round was more rock'n'roll: "I wasn't stressed at all. Even less than the day before. But I had more trouble with my long game, and my putting was less effective. I was still in the lead when I put a ball out of bounds on 12. The triple bogey that followed didn't make me give up. In fact, I made three birdies in the last six holes to climb back into second place. So, my reaction was very positive, as was my result for the week. I would have signed up for this result straight away at the start of the tournament. But obviously not this morning..." With the score of +2 (74) in the final round and a total of -10, Kim had to leave the victory to the Czech Jana Melichova.

"If I had to play that round again, I wouldn't do much different. I didn’t changed my strategy. I just couldn't find the momentum I had on Friday and Saturday. Of course there's frustration, because I had a big lead. But my confidence is intact. And I'm convinced that this will serve me well the next time I'm in this position. A resilience that underlines the strength of character of the player from Golf de Lausanne.
