Mauro Gilardi triumphs at The Cuber Open 2025 after stunning final round
24. July 2025
Mauro Gilardi delivered a stunning final-round comeback to win The Cuber Open 2025 at the Old Course in Öschberghof. The 25-year-old Swiss fired a brilliant 63 (-8) to overtake Dutchman Lars van der Vight (68) and claim his maiden title on the Pro Golf Tour with a total of -23. Germans Michael Hirmer and Philipp Macionga shared third place on a rain-soaked final day.
Despite difficult weather, Gilardi thrived in the conditions. After starting the final round three shots back, he stayed steady on the front nine before surging ahead with five birdies on holes 10 to 16. A thunderstorm delay with two holes to play didn’t shake his focus—two closing pars secured a two-shot victory.
“I still can’t quite believe it—it feels incredible,” Gilardi said. “I finally putted well all week and played the way I know I can. After the delay, I just focused on staying mistake-free.”
Recent strong performances—including 11th at the Gradi Polish Open and T17 at the Swiss Challenge—had shown the Chur native was trending in the right direction. Comfortable on the Old Course, which reminded him of his home club in Domat-Ems, Gilardi said, “It almost felt like playing at home.”
With this win, Gilardi climbs to 8th in the Order of Merit. Next up is the Bonmont Pro Golf Tour event in Switzerland starting July 28—on the same course where Mauro won the 2024 Swiss PGA Championship in.
