A rollercoaster of emotions for Morgane and Albane at the Olympics

12. August 2024

The final round at the Olympic Games in Paris brought a mix of highs and lows for our Swiss PGA athletes, Morgane Metraux and Albane Valenzuela. The final day did not go as planned for Morgane Metraux. The day started on a tough note with two bogeys on the first two holes, followed by a triple bogey on the 5th hole, leading to a disappointing 41 (+5 over par) on the front nine.

“It just wasn’t my day,” Morgane explained after the round. “The putts just didn’t drop, and everything seemed to pile up. It was frustrating because nothing seemed to go right.” Despite these setbacks, Morgane showed resilience on the back nine, managing to finish with a few birdies, which helped salvage the day somewhat. “I tried to stay positive and give my best until the end. But it’s obviously not how you want to finish a tournament. It’s going to take some time to get over this.”

Despite her struggles, Morgane emphasized that she had learned a lot from the day and hoped to handle similar situations better in the future. “It will definitely be a learning experience. I hope to come back stronger next time.”

In contrast, Albane Valenzuela experienced a remarkable turnaround. She approached the day with determination and steadily climbed the leaderboard. With a spectacular round of 65 strokes (-7 under par), she recorded the second-best score of the day and surged to a tie for 13th place.

“Finally, the putts started to drop,” said a visibly relieved Albane after her round. “After the tough days I had earlier, it was a huge relief to find my rhythm today. I wish I could have had this momentum earlier in the tournament, but shooting -7 at the Olympic Games is always something special.”

For Albane, this round was proof that she can compete at the highest level, even when the odds are against her. “Days like this show me that golf is an unpredictable sport. But they also prove that I have the ability to succeed in tough situations. This motivates me a lot for the upcoming challenges.”

In the end, Morgane Metraux finished in a tie for 18th place with a total score of 2 under par, while Albane Valenzuela concluded the tournament as the best Swiss player in a tie for 13th place with a total score of 3 under par.

We congratulate our Swiss athletes on their outstanding performance at the Olympic Games. They not only made their country proud but also gained valuable experience that will help them in their future endeavors.
