Strong Swiss performance at Haugschlag – Gilardi shines with 3rd place

At the opening event of the European season, the Haugschlag NÖ Open by perfect eagle 2026 on the Pro Golf Tour, Mauro Gilardi made another strong statement with an outstanding 3rd-place finish. The Graubünden native has thus confirmed his strong early-season form and continues to establish himself among the tour’s elite.

Consistency the key to the podium

Gilardi impressed in particular with his remarkable consistency throughout all three rounds of the tournament. Right from the start, he had put himself in a promising position with a round of 68 (-3) and, after the first day, was among the extended leaders alongside his Swiss colleagues.

The 26-year-old remained steady in the following rounds too, avoiding major mistakes and consistently keeping pace with the leaders. This consistency over three days was ultimately decisive for his podium finish – a pattern that had already emerged in the preceding weeks with second and ninth places in Egypt.

With third place, Gilardi not only secured his first top-three result of the 2026 season but also consolidated his position in the Order of Merit, where he currently ranks among the best players.

Swiss PGA members impress as a unit

Alongside Gilardi, the other Swiss professionals also put in a solid performance at the tournament in Lower Austria.

  • Jeremy Freiburghaus played his way into promising positions with strong spells – particularly on the back nine of the opening round – and managed to hold his own in the upper midfield as the tournament progressed.
  • Jean-Leon Aeschlimann provided a highlight with an eagle on the first day and also showed a clear improvement in performance compared to his previous starts to the season.
  • Other Swiss players, such as Jordan Prutthaweewat, also played under par at times and proved competitive in the international field.
