Swiss Challenge 2024: Cédric Gugler and the Swiss Hopefuls in the Spotlight

News

Home Game for Gugler and Co. at Golf Saint Apollinaire

25. September 2024

The Swiss Challenge is just around the corner, and for Cédric Gugler, this week could be particularly special. The 24-year-old Swiss golfer is eager to capitalize on home advantage and secure his first victory on the Challenge Tour. Following an impressive fourth-place finish at the Omega European Masters on the DP World Tour earlier this month, Gugler arrives in Folgensbourg with plenty of confidence.

"My game feels great, and I've had a strong season so far," Gugler said in the lead-up to the tournament. "It’s important for me to stay focused on the present. The Omega European Masters were a highlight of my career, and I hope to be back on that stage soon."

With his proximity to the venue—Gugler lives just 25 minutes away—he knows the course inside and out. This could give him a crucial advantage, although the course has become soft and challenging due to recent rainfall. "It will be important to hit fairways and greens if you want to have a chance," Gugler explained.

In addition to Gugler, several other Swiss PGA members are competing, including the in-form Jeremy Freiburghaus, who recently secured a seventh-place finish at the Italian Challenge Open. Other participants such as Mauro Gilardi, Jordan Prutthaweewat,  Wortelboer Sasha, Luca Galliano, Michael Weppernig, Loris Schüpbach, Zeno Felder and Alessandro Noseda have been granted wildcards. With so many local players and free entry, the tournament offers a great opportunity for fans to support Swiss talents.

Gugler is especially looking forward to the home crowd’s support: "It’s so nice to drive to the course from home every morning. The Swiss fans are always great at this event, and their support gives me a big advantage."

Visit Golf Saint Apollinaire from September 26 to 29 free of charge and cheer for the Swiss players competing in the Swiss Challenge.
