The Swiss players delivered an impressive performance at the VP Bank Swiss Ladies Open in Golfpark Holzhäusern, the only Swiss stop on the Ladies European Tour. Five players made the cut, with Chiara Tamburlini (T2, -8), Kim Métraux (T17, -5) and junior Axelle Martin from Payerne (T17, -5) all finishing inside the top 20. Yana Beeli and Caroline Sturdza (T64) also qualified for the final round, rounding off a superb overall result. The title went to defending champion Alice Hewson from England (-13).
After opening rounds of 70 and 68, Chiara Tamburlini attracted large crowds on Saturday, with many fans following her group together with Axelle Martin. A closing round of 67 brought plenty of cheers and secured the St. Gallen native her eighth top-10 finish of the season – and already her eighth top-3 finish since joining the Ladies European Tour just two years ago.
“I returned from Houston earlier this week and struggled a bit with jetlag at the beginning. But Friday and Saturday were the cherry on top. So many spectators – that was really cool! I’m very happy with my result,” said Tamburlini, who currently sits sixth on the Order of Merit.
England’s Alice Hewson kept her composure on Saturday, carding a final-round 67 (-4) to successfully defend her title. Starting the day with a two-shot lead, she extended it to five shots by the end and celebrated her third career win on the Ladies European Tour.
