Swiss PGA Championship 2026: Sven Cremer Wins with a Birdie on the Final Hole
15. October 2026
Sven Cremer is the Swiss PGA Champion. With a birdie on the final hole, he secured the championship, held from 12 to 14 October 2026 at Golf Club Zürichsee, after three rounds with a total of 201 strokes (–15) – one stroke ahead of Mauro Gilardi and Benjamin Rusch, who shared second place.
Strong Field on a Course in Top Condition
Fifty professionals took part in the three-day tournament, including Playing Pros Benjamin Rusch, Mauro Gilardi, André Bossert, Loïc Naas, Robert Foley, Sasha Wortelboer and Fiorino Clerici. Golf Club Zürichsee was in outstanding condition and provided the perfect stage for a championship of the highest calibre.
Wortelboer Sets the Early Pace
Sasha Wortelboer opened with a brilliant round of 64 (–8) to take the immediate lead. After the second day, he remained in front on 133 strokes (–11), now tied with Sven Cremer. On the final day, however, two difficult holes caused him to lose touch with the leaders. A round of 75 saw him drop to fifth place overall (–8).
A Final-Round Charge and Consistency
Benjamin Rusch provided the excitement on the final day. With a superb round of 64 (–8), he surged through the chasing pack to claim second place. Mauro Gilardi was equally impressive, although in a very different way. Displaying the same consistency he had shown throughout the season, he carded rounds of 66, 68 and 68 and remained within reach of the title until the very end.
Decided on the 18th Green
In the end, it was Sven Cremer who held his nerve. With rounds of 65 (–7), 68 (–4) and 68 (–4), he produced an exceptionally solid and consistent performance throughout the tournament. The decisive birdie on the final hole gave him the one-stroke advantage that left Gilardi and Rusch tied for second place. Robert Foley completed the top four on –10 with a strong closing round of 66.
André Bossert Wins the Senior Category
The senior category was also decided only at the very end. André Bossert and James Johnson were locked in a head-to-head battle for much of the round before Bossert raised the pace over the closing stretch. With three birdies on the final five holes, he sealed the victory. He won with 211 strokes (–5), ahead of Steve Rey (214, –2) and James Johnson (216, E).
Golf at a High Level
The championship delivered three days of golf at the highest level. The fact that the title was not decided until the final green demonstrates just how closely matched Switzerland’s professionals are. Alongside tournament golf, many of them also work as golf instructors at clubs, where they pass on their experience and expertise. The performances at Golf Club Zürichsee clearly demonstrate the expertise behind the work of Swiss PGA Professionals.
