The Swiss PGA Team Championship was won this week at Golf Club Montreux by Zurich Golf Club Trainee, Benjamin Purshouse and Esery Golf Club pro, Alain Jeanrenaud with 69, 69 (-6). Within the 4-ball pairing, the team tied with new PGA graduates, Edouard Amacher (GC Domaine Impérial) and Andrea Gurini (GC Gerre Losone) with the same scores.
The winning pair had enjoyed a close tussle in the final flight with the Golfpark Waldkirch team of Andreas Krämer and Adone Hepburn, whose final round 70 led them to miss the eventual playoff by a stroke. Local pro, Alexandre Lemetayer, and Golf de Pra Roman pro, Jean-Luc Burnier, created the early clubhouse lead with the low-round of the tournament (67), but their first-day 72 also held them to a one-stroke deficit for the playoff.
The sudden death playoff, scheduled over holes 1 and 18, was short-lived with a birdie four by Jeanrenaud. Gurini played an excellent second into the green, which settled just beyond the putting surface, but a poor chip left Amacher with his birdie attempt of 15 feet putt to place any pressure on the five-footer Jeanrenaud had left following an excellent short approach from the front left of the green. With Amacher’s putt sliding by, Jeanrenaud calmly holed his birdie putt to claim the title.
